goodbye sweet Ru

Last week Unorthodogs lost one of our original team dogs. Ruby was diagnosed with liver cancer in February 2009. The vets said she would have a few weeks to live but she surprised us all by holding on for 5 additional months. Ruby wasn't in any pain until the very end. she enjoyed some of the best meals of her life and continued to play with the rest of the dogs. We said goodbye to her when she started to show us she was no longer happy.
We will miss Ruby Red. She was a feisty girl with an attitude far bigger than her 15lb frame. Ruby believed she was one of the big dogs and bossed everyone around as if she were the biggest. The Queen of Mean enjoyed an extensive flyball career racing in Nova Scotia, Texas and finally Washington. She ran in tournaments all over Atlantic Canada, Southern United States and the Pacific Northwest. Her best racing time was a 4.41 (with a pass). She was known for her lightning fast turn and excessive drooling. We will miss her.

Without Ruby our two dogs would not have been able to run on a team - she was a height dog with a big presence in and out of the race lanes - she will aways be remembered for the joy she gave us all when she was near.
